A Bad Chainsaw

A guy named Joe wanted to cut down some trees in his back yard. He went to a chainsaw shop and asked about the different chainsaws he saw displayed. The dealer said, “I have a lot of different chainsaws, but you can save yourself a lot of time and aggravation if you just go ahead and get this top-of-the-line model. This chainsaw will cut a hundred cords of wood for you in one day.”

Thinking that sounded like good advice, Joe bought the chainsaw. He took it home and began working on the trees. After working all day, he had cut only two cords of wood. He was puzzled but decided to get up earlier the next day and try again.

The next day, he got up at 4:00 a.m. and cut and cut until nightfall. However, he managed to cut only three cords. He decided he must have a bad chainsaw.

The next day he took the chainsaw back to the dealer and complained. The dealer was baffled. “Only five cords of wood? I just don’t understand it,” he said. He took the chainsaw out of the case and looked it over. “It looks fine,” he said. Then he started it up.

“What’s that noise?” asked Joe.
